Dr. Tanya Pareek, Ph.D.

Dr. Tanya Pareek is a Postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is a behavioral pharmacologist and neuroscientist with expertise in molecular, behavioral, and pharmacological approaches focused on the neurobiology of substance use disorders. She earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where her dissertation used a cross-species approach to examine hippocampal molecular targets, including the role of L-type calcium channels, in alcohol use disorder. Her research experience also includes work on opioid–benzodiazepine co-use, novel opioid compounds, antinociception, sleep as well as rodent and non-human primate models of drug self-administration. Her current research interests include investigating the biological and behavioral mechanisms that contribute to substance and polysubstance use disorders, with an emphasis on improving treatment outcomes and advancing medication development.
